The local machine shop takes about 2-3 weeks to do full machining, boring, deck milling, crank grinding, size rods, replace valve seats and guides.I buy all the new parts from him and do my own assembly, but I always have the shop press in the cam bearings.(remember, this shop did Rick's engine, the Stovebolt horror). There are a few possibly better shops for serious work but they are more expensive and a 2 month wait. Best time is just after Christmas, not much work for them at that time of year.Like Oly says ,around 1400 bucks for parts and machining.
Makes no sense to take so long, you get paid when you complete it not before.A month ago I sent a vintage BSA cycle head to a well recomended "specialist" in Maryland.I just called to ask for a progress report,he didn't even remember the head then said "OH yes,I'm working on it." Even through the phone I could smell the BS.Maybe he is from Mississippi.
