Don't bother filling the converter, it just makes a big mess when you try to install it. As soon as the pump picks up the fluid from the pan, the converter is the first place it goes. Install the trans with everything dry, put in about 5 quarts of fluid, and fire up and idle. Add fluid a little at a time, after running the shift quadrant through all the positions several times to fill all th4e clutches. Leaving the fluid level a slight bit low (less than a pint) is better than overfilling and trying to figure out how to get a little back out. Trans fluid always expands a lot at running temperature, so make the final level check after a test-drive, and top off as required.
