Litte, if any machine work is involved, and bushing replacement is pretty simple. There's a lot of "feel" involved in replacing the lip seals on the clutch pistons, and a lot of danger of nicking a seal during assembly and creating an internal pressure leak. Definitely seek out a mentor for the first 50 or so transmissions you build. After that, you're on your own! I have fabricated a bunch of home-made tools to assist in dismantling and reassembling the clutch assemblies, spring compressors, assembly aids for clutch piston seals, etc. The tools are available commercially, and shouldn't cost more than twice what getting the job done professionally should run. Plan on doing several transmissions for pay to recoup your investment if you go that route. One final tip- - - -use LOTS of petroleum jelly during assembly. It's impossible to get the parts too slick! Lube all the clutch plates by soaking in ATF for several minutes prior to assembling the clutch packs.
