Fritz,
according to my sources,in the days of the older 216s with shimmed mains, they used to adjust the clearance on the rear main as part of the seal repair. What this tells me is that if the clearance on the rear main is a little too much, it will be hard to control the oil leak. Did you record your clearances during your rebuild ?
