from all I've heard the blocks that were designed for a rope seal rarely wind up working w/ the neoprene seal - try the rope, works well usually, at least for a time - remember these are pretty low tech machines that require constant regasketing to stay [somewhat] dry - my 235 and older 283's worked fine w/ the rope seal
