Just to give you my thoughts ,i cut my old floor out along the centerline left by removing the the metal floor strip(floor came out in two pieces).i am planning to use a 3/8" router bit to form a lap joint and hide it under the floor strip. my thought is the bolts that hold the strip along with glue would provide support support to the lap joint.i can see where the orginal was tounge and groove joined (5 sections if i recall correctly)at the cad end.the other end nearest to to barn doors was rotten,which prompted me to cut it out in the first place. i guess you can say that where the can of worms opened up.
