At the current price of gas I would not expect to fly and drive for less than $2,000!
2500 miles @ 10 mpg = 250 gallons @ 3.00/gallon for $750 in fuel. Airfare at $500 and you aren't going to eat or sleep very nice, and if anything goes wrong just the added hotel bill is going to kill the budget. Plus its hard to carry much in the way of tools and spare parts on an airplane...
Sharpen the pencil on my quick numbers and the risk of added expense will still make it a gamble.
There are some haulers who might arrange to move it on a back haul for less than standard price, but I would not expect anyone to haul it for less than $1/mile at today's fuel cost.
I trailered a '66 Suburban last night for a friend. With the mileage my big pickup gets (6 mpg loaded) and at $3.00/gallon (okay it was actually only $2.98 for this tank) I spent 50 cents a mile on gasoline. It would sure be hard to make money on $1/mile so I would not be optimistic you'll find a cheap way to get this done.
If it were me and I was real confident the truck is a driver, I'd fly and drive just for the adventure. I'd take my son or persuade a friend to come along. I'd carry some basic hand tools with me including the plastic one I prefer to leave unused in my wallet.
But you sure might want to make a different choice!
