Try to answer all your specific questions. BradB I went with the 84 GMC IFS mostly because I am cheap and secondly it is a TRUCK front end. M2s may be just fine but I am not all that impressed. I picked up the 84 IFS and rear end from a boneyard in Missouri for $350. 49B yes I had to take an 1 5/8 out of the middle of the 84 C- member. This allows the whole assembly to bolt up to the AD frame without shims in the correct position. It can be done without cutting the C-member but a 1/2 to 9/16 shim would have to be used on each side. GARYS, using the 84 rear end out of the same truck with 2:73 gears. H-Rod Lincoln says should work OK with my 283/Th350 setup. 61 Apache 10, I had a local guy sand blast the frame and IFS and then went with NAPA crossfire self etching epoxy primer and black acrylic enamel. A disadvantage to this setup is that when done the ride height is about 2 to 3 inches higher than normal so you have to use drop spindles to get back to stock height, Also the track width is wider so wheels with sufficient backset must be used. Never expected so many positive replies. This started out as just an update on engine, brakes etc. etc. but it turns out I guess I am actually building a street rod but what fun. You guys are OK and I could never attempt this project without this great site. Will try to post more pics.
