Thought my cluster was a lost cause 'till I cleaned it. I painted the back panel with semi-gloss black. The numbers on the '66 are on the clear face plate. I compounded that, and, painted the bezel. The thing looks new!! I also cleaned the mounting screws. They were all corroded due to the dissimilar metal. Now the gas gauge works!! For any of you guys with gauge/grounding problems with your cluster, this is the first place to look. You know, where the bezel screws to the cluster. The ground is then supplied through the bezel to dash mounting points.
