I say stick with the mechanical.
Simpler, less money, and if you are worried put an extra one under the seat.

I bought new one form the auto parts store and was able to simply interchange from old pump to new pump the glass bowl filter that is made as part of the pump.
I had a few problems before I had the filter on, none after I started using the filter.
