I just bought a 5th wheel camper and had the 5th wheel hitch mounted as part of the deal. The company mounted it 6 inches in front of the rear axle. As for the sliding hitch, they are used on short box trucks so that you can slide the unit away from the cab for tight turns when turning or backing into a tight place. My truck is an extended cab short box '07. I did not get the slider hitch because it was about $400 more. I do have to watch myself when backing into a camp site so that I don't hit the back of the cab. Don
