The axle will work, but will require removing all the coil spring mounts, etc. and welding on your spring mounts. I used an 87 (82-92 are interchangeable) and the TCI rear spring kit, worked out fine. The V-6 type are not super durable, tho, if you plan on towing or big power. +1 on staying away from the subframe.
