It depends on how far the mark is moving and it should be going in the advance direction. Your distributor should have a mechanical and a vacuum advance on it. The mechanical advance is a couple of weights that rotate outward as the rpm increases and advances the timing. The vacuum advance should kick in as the speed of the engine picks up and also advance the timing.
You should be able to find out how much advance you should have in the tune up specs for your engine.
