Mike the deluxe heater had a vent that pulled in fresh air for the heater. The standard heater just heats the recirculated air in the cab.
The deluxe heater was a option in 53. If you have a deluxe heater I would use the parts you have. If you have the standard heater I'm not sure what good the valve and rod assy. will do for you.
