You should not have to remove the tube at all.

Make sure you have things marked (rotor position and distributor position), then remove the vacuum advance line. Once you have that done you can remove the hold-down bolt below and to the left of the distributor. You may need to wiggle the distributor some but it will come out.

When and if you need to remove the road draft tube, there is a screw located at the bottom edge of the block just above the oil-pan. Remove that screw and gently tap the top sides of the tubeback ad forth some to loosen it. It will then wiggle out. (It is a press in fit). To install the tube,use a little sealeraround the edge of the hole in the block and make sure you line up the lower part of the tube with the edge of the block. Use a small block of wood or a soft face hammer to tap the main part of the tube into the block just far enough to be snug and for the bolt hole to line up with the screw hole in the block.

There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.
