I just went through this with mine. There is supposed to be a shim in there. I made mine from some metal stock 1/8". I found I needed 1/4" in height. This has a direct bearing on how the front fenders align with the radiator support. Just that extra 1/8 made all the difference in the adjusting of fenders to the hood. If you have the shop manual it shows this in it.
