On my ¾ ton, which has an extra stake pocket, one of the previous owners welded a bracket between the front and center stake pocket. The tire is bolted to the bracket and rides on the running board.
Stake pockets are available at several of the vintage parts places, wonder if a person could buy a stake pocket, welded it to the bed side and mount the spare to it.
