Randy B.,
I think you need to mention to ALWAYS refer to the specific service manual for their year and type of truck.
There are MANY different configurations that are year/size/type specific.
For example 1946 1/2 tons had press in bushings that needed to be honed to fit the kingpin on all size trucks. While 1947-54 (maybe others) 1/2 tons had "floating bushings" that didn't need to be honed (and did not have the benefit of a locking ring but the dust cap had to be staked). On 3/4 tons and above the bushings had to be honed to fit.
The groove on the outside of the bushings is only on the floating bushings.
The use of a thrust washer versus a thrust bearing differs. In 1946 a thrust bearing was used on all size trucks. 47-54 only used a thrust bearing on the 3100 - 4400 trucks.
And these are just a few of the differences.
I hope others will tell you about the differences on their year/size trucks. As always, somebody will correct me if I am wrong. Good luck!
P.S.
I think the Tech Tip was a REALLY good job!!

Always get a 2nd opinion, especially if I am the source of the 1st opinion.
