There are several different sizes of king pins available depending on the amount of wear on the truck. It's possible that the spindles you bought either had oversize bushings installed, worn out bushings or no bushings at all.

If the spindle is mechanically OK...has good threads and intact bearing seats then they should be a good candidate for new bushings when you buy and install your new king pin set.

Oversize pins are required when the axle eye is worn and wobbled out. When you install oversize pins, the "hole" in the bushings which you insert into the spindle are larger. If you stick a standard OD pin in them, it will fall right through. There has to be bushings in the spindle!
