The best advice I can give is prior to driving, you need to check brakes, steering, drivetrain. In that order. First you need to be 110% sure you can stop the truck. Then you need to be 110% sure you can turn the truck. Then be sure it will go.

What I mean by checking is inspect all components. Lines, cylinders, shoes, drums, balljoints, linkages etc.
