Most states used the engine number as the vin through 1955. If the number you stated is the one on the title look at the raised boss behind & below the distributer on your engine. You may need to scrape some gunk off. You will probably find the number stamped there. I would highly recommend calling 1-800-222-1020 to get a "restoration packet" from GM. It's free in the US. The packet will contain all of the information they have on your truck including how to locate and decode the VIN. You will need the VIN number from your title when you call.
