Don't forget to flush the tranny cooler. Most tranny shops sell an aerosol can w/hose made for this- You screw it into where one of the cooler lines goes and leave the other side open and push the button, this'll clean out the cooler.
What you are going for is to get all the fluid out AND all the dissolved bits of clutch/friction plates...
You should definately change the filter/gasket and think about putting some 'tranny flush' fluid in the tranny before draining it. That'll help get all the fluid out and reduce possible problems from mixing new syn with the older stuff.
What Gazim says about draining the converter too is spot on, in some converters there is a drain plug for that purpose.
It might be easier to have someone else do this for you. I believe tranny shops have a special machine to do the swap and don't charge that much to do it.
