Mine dide the same thing, and it was a new cable. Double check the routing to make sure there is no severe kinks in it and that it slides freely on the lever rod when the foot pedal is operated. I ended up disconnecting mine as I didn't use it and my engine has been modified with an Offy manifold and dual Holley 1904's.
