I had the starter professionally rebuilt and it works well most the time. I have converted to 12 volt. Problem is about 20% of the time the starter gear does not engage the flywheel gear before it starts spinning and I get a loud, embarrasing sound. I took the contactor switch off the top of the starter and slotted the holes some so that I could move it forward away from the lever in hopes that it would close the contact later in the starting sequence to help the problem but it still does it some. Anybody had this problem? Any suggestions? Should I be pressing the start pedal slowly or jabbing it quickly? THANKS!
