| | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | At the time these trucks were being made there was a VERY good reason for the side mount spare(it cost extra) and that was many were destined to be farm trucks when most farms were on unpaved roads. A flat in 4 inches of mud or a foot of snow and people would have traded their smooth fender and everything in their billfold for them. Now that they're just for looking at or cruising to the Sonic on friday night the smooth fenders are much more in favor. I grew up in farming country and if the spare tire hanging off the side kept me off my belly in a puddle of slush it looked beautiful.
