I understand we're comparing apples to oranges because the original poster is asking about tires that have been unmounted & unmolested for 20 years and we're talking about tires that have been mounted and very molested but I've gotten 5 months out of the two front tires so far. I did have to replace the rear because they started to fail.
Am I recomending anyone take tires in the condition mine are in and use them? No I'm not. I'm using them out of necessity.
I'm just pointing out to him that he doesn't necessarily need to be afraid of them either. Since they've never been used why not mount them and give them a try. Tires in much worse conditon have been and are being successfully used. I wouldn't be scared of them at all.
The bottom line is he needs to do what he's comfortable with. I'm just giving him info from personal experience to help him with that decision, as are you.
