I seem to recall Patrick66 offers a simular service for vehicles in the OKC area.
Pros and cons to that sort of service.
The pros would definately be that if you have real concerns that the seller is being less than honest about the condition of the vehicle, having an independant third party to look it over, provide additional details and insight on the vehicles condition would put your mind at ease.
The only con I could think of, is if the vehicle is something really cool you're thinking of buying real cheap, the "inspector" could buy it out from under you.. and you just paid him to do it.
For $100 flat fee, my guess is that outfit just contracts with a local shop or garage in the area the vehicle is in, and pays them a $50 cut or something.
Nothing but upside for the CarCHex folks.. because not only do they hit you for $100 to look at the vehicle, but they add that report to their database and sell the same report to anybody else who asks for $25.
Seems like a service you'd only want to use if the vehicle was a real high dollar item.. probably wouldn't want to spend $100 to have somebody check out a $1200 vehicle.. at least *I* wouldnt.
