They know GM folks will give them a tow any day, but they may not like the billing rate. Face it, Stovebolters really get into our projects and I guess ford guys thing if we can fix a Chevy/Jimmy, we walk on water and can fix anything.
The best advice you can give them is "Yes, you can put a small block chevy under your ford hood to fix most any problem you have"
I will confess that I do have my eye on a 54 F100 but it will have a chevy heart if it comes from my garage. They are pretty trucks, at least between 53 and 56.
