Richard,
Now all you need is a coal stove and you'll be working in the 20th century ;-)
You should take digital photos of everything before you take it apart.
You should put bolts and screws and whatnot into ziploc bags as you take them off.
Use a black sharpie marker and label the bag. Refer to the photo number and to the area the parts came off of.
I would disassemble the truck down to the frame first. I would fix up the frame ie: fixing cracks and removing klooges.
I would build up the truck in this order:
- frame
- suspension
- axles
- steering
- brakes
- wheels
- motor
- gas tank
- body
- and all the rest
This is how I'm doing my present project. Hopefully you will be won't take as long as I am.
I would leave the axles on the truck until the last moment. They are good jackstands for the frame.
I can't remember what condition the wheels are in but if they are okay then I would leave them on the axles. Then when you remove the leaf springs from the frame you can wheel the axles around easily. I can't imagine how heavy those axles are!
Hope that helps.
John
