arnswine is right... there are some good tricks out there... the peal n' stick roofing stuff he talked about is available at any large box building supply store. Do yourself a favor and apply that to your entire floor and strips inside your doors. Buy the jute carpet padding at any carpet store and use 3M's 77 spray adhesive... lay that down over the peal n' stick. It all works. Also check out the Interior Forum for more about the topic.
