the changeover isn't too tough Ken, just requires changing generator and all bulbs to 12V and getting dropping resistors for a few things like heater fan and gas guage, but there are a number of things you can do to improve the 6V system too - big one is make sure you've got heavy enuff cables on the battery, as they frequently get replaced w/ modern off-the-shelf ones meant for 12V, which doesn't require as much current capacity - another is to get a battery blanket to keep the battery from getting too cold, as the colder it gets the less juice it puts out
