My '42 2 ton (235) worked great with a braided ground from the battery directly to the transmission.. I added another from the engine to the frame just for good measure.
My '46 1/2 (216) ton has a single ground going from the battery to the bell housing, and seems to work just fine.
I've learned in my limited experience with 6 volt systems, you can't ever have too many solid grounds, or too big a gauge battery cables!
