I heard about using a 12 volt motor from Granger as a replacement for the deluxe heater. I had even passed on what I was told. But now I have done the swap, and will no longer recommend it.

Problems encountered were:

Shaft diameter requires a bushing 1/4 to 5/16.

Retainer. You can't use the snap on retainer. I had to drill and tap the fan hub to put in a setscrew. Not an easy job.

Mounting studs. Minor change, studs are on 3-1/2 center versus 3-9/16 requiring opening upp holes in the heater housing.

Sealing. The Granger motor is not watertight. I had sealed the motor with rtv, but finally made a cover to keep the moisture out.

Wiring. The wiring for the Granger motor comes out the end cap into the engine bay, the original motor wire remains inside the cab. Also, the motor is wire reversed from the direction needed. I took care of that by switching the wires.

Considering the cost, the motor from Granger is $20, vendor prices are about $45. If I had to do it again, I would buy a replacement from a vendor.
