Tim,
The reference to honing the spindle bushings might be misleading. During the process of pressing the bushings into their bores, sometimes they get dinged or slightly mashed if the correct driver isn't used. I have used oil/lapping compound to get a sliding fit. I suppose if it were done perfectly this wouldn't be needed. Using the new pin as a guide can really help get them in straight.
