I Dont think you would have to take apart the torsion bars, just to swap the spindles.
I've had my '61 torn down to the spindles for inspection, and brake rebuild, but never actually removed them, but couldnt see anything out of the ordinary.
Are you saying you're adding coil springs to the front, along with the torsion bars? I'd like to see that setup if you got any pics.
