The flywheels are the same size.
If you have the front fenders off you could leave the trans in place.
Six months is not that long for a engine to sit. I have pulled engines apart that have sat for many years and the bearings were still full of oil. If moisture has gotten to the engine I would put a little oil in the cylinders through the spark plug holes.
