Well, like I said, I was a kid then so maybe it was more like in the late 60's. I have no idea whether they were strictly regional to the Bay Area or not. The stock # tag got me thinking that wherever your engine came from it was probably a decent sized outfit. I did a web search but came up with nothing. Sorry.
