283/327 both can take an alternator directly
in place of the generator on the rams head exhaust - no it doesn't get any hotter than it can stand, or as hot as the manifold, or any hotter than the oil filter that hangs on the 6cyl manifold!
might have to fudge the adjustment arm a bit, but worked easy on my 283 - not sure where
my bracket came from, other than my parts pile
but I think you'd be able to use the gen bracket w/ a little ingenuity and a spacer to adapt for the alt having a shorter mount flange, and if you can find any wrecking yard truck w/ rams horns, you might find a bracket there
