I ran into the same gas/varnish problem. The truck had been running fine in Colorado then a week before it was to be shipped to me it quit running. Got her here in Boston area and found 5 bent intake pushrods. Had to pull head and cut rods to get them out.
So oil isn't your only potential enemy!
