Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!

For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | Welcome to the Stovebolt Mike.
I don't completely trust vin numbers anymore. A '55 1st should have a curved windshield and an open driveline (first year on half-tons). It should also have the '54-55 only grill, push button door handles and wing windows.
I believe J means 3/4-ton and 55 means 1955. It should have a wheel base of 125 inches and have 8-lug hubs if its a 3/4.
I believe the 4th character will tell you where it was made, but don't recall the code for that part...
1955 1st GMC Suburban | 1954 GMC 250 trailer puller project | 1954 GMC 250 Hydra-Matic | 1954 Chevy 3100 . 1947 Chevy COE | and more... It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble... | | |
