OK, I checked for cracks before I started and it looks good all the way around as far as I can see and feel. I know the crack you're speaking of. The '46 216 block has one of those nasty cracks all the way down the side of block. I've got it soaking and I drained the old sludge from the oil pan along with some water. Not a pretty sight. I took the valve cover off and the valve assembly looked real good and only one valve was slightly stuck. It came loose with a little Gibbs and a block and hammer. I can't seem to get the trans. to shift at all. The lever will swivel back and forth sideways but I can't move it in or out of gear which ever it is.
