George raised some good issues. What happens is part of your oil (I've been told 10%) is diverted through the filter, not enough to make much of a difference in your oil pressure. My opinion is that the filter will remove the dirt, but not as fast as a full flow filter, causing less abrasion in the engine, resulting in longer engine life. You still have to change your oil at the same intervals.

If you have the engine out for rework, then convert it to a full flow system.
