Here in Oregon you can either run your old plates as Vintage Vehicle with use restriction or you can get vanity plates with the same number (assuming they are clear) and use the old plates instead of the new ones as long as the plates are inspected and deemed to be in good enough condition. I have a set of '50 farm truck plates to go on my truck after I finish it.
