Tony, I haven't noticed anything. When I was looking for a stick shift, everyone I talked to said that the 2000 and 01 models had an improved and stronger transmission...I guess they straightened out that shifting issue. It seems to shift fine between 1st and 2nd.
As far as remapping the computer specs, there is a lot of information out there for GM computers. Basically it's just a matter of tweaking the numbers for the slightly different displacement, and a lot of experimentation to get it the way I want.
