GMCpanel, about that improved transmission...they started using the high torque capacity trans used in the Grand Cherokee (for the 318 V8), probably to shut a factory down and save some money. My dad had an '87 Cherokee with a really tight 157,000 mile AMC designed automatic, and the two Jeep's I've known with later model high torque autos were slippery on the 1-2 shift
