I doubt that the 283 ever came with a foot-mash starter, unless it was an option in a late '50s truck. You'll have to use a SBC flywheel with whatever starter you find. You may be able to put an electric switch for the starter on the floor to mimic the original linkage.

Also, the 235 bellhousing won't bolt to a V8, so you'll have to change bellhousings & transmissions.
