Thanks for the info. It's running pretty well, so I hope I don't have to get into it anytime soon. I have no idea of the history of the engine. It could very well have already had the timing gear changed - I'm sure I'll find out someday.
Another question. When I use a strobe light to try to set the timing, I can't make the pointer show up in the window - that is and still have it run. With the engine not running, when I turn the engine so that I can see the pointer in the window, the rotor is pointing to number 2 or number 5. Any idea what's up with that?
