Unfortunately, Chevy stopped using a year designation in the engine serial numbers in '57, so one has to go by the casting date on the block. I would say fab51 is correct about the casting date. In addition, the serial number gives the assembly plant (F=Flint), month and day that the engine was assembled (09/11), and the "A" suffix confirms it as the standard car 235.
