Most of our current vendors offer the style you have pictured as 1956-62 235/261 "solid lifters". 1955 and earlier solid lifters are advertised as "milk can" style. If these were hydraulic style, they would definitely have the clip holding the inner push rod cup in place. I think you've solved this part of your engine mystery.
