A tire has to go flat, or have extremely low pressure to dislodge itself from a rim. At 40 PSI, there are several TONS of thrust holding the bead of the tire against the rim- - - -no way it's going to separate unless it goes flat first. I used to have my auto mechanics students calculate the number of square inches in a tire sidewall and then multiply that number times the recommended pressure- - - -the resulting side thrust is a real attention-getter. I did that during a safety lecture about not reusing bent or cracked cast aluminum wheels.
